About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide awake overnight program activities in a community living arrangement
- Provide direct service and nursing aide care to individuals with brain injuries and complex health needs
- Assist with activities of daily living, including vital signs, laundry, toileting, showering, dressing, shaving, wound care, foot care, skin checks, and passive range of motion exercises
- Monitor individuals for changes in physical, mental, or emotional status
- Administer medications and treatments according to MAP guidelines and Vinfen policies
- Provide nutritional support and training in ADLs, personal hygiene, dressing, and household chores
- Conduct and document fire and safety training
- Provide transportation to medical, dental, and other appointments as directed
- Maintain a safe, clean, welcoming, and compliant environment, including housekeeping, snow shoveling, and garbage removal
- Document nursing care, medication administration, daily shift notes, incidents, and medication errors
- Maintain accurate and current medical records, confidential files, equipment, and supplies
- Communicate status changes and care information to managers, colleagues, families, guardians, and providers
- Safely operate and maintain assistive and medical equipment, including wheelchairs, Hoyer lifts, walkers, glucometers, nebulizers, and oxygen
- Support participation in home, program, and community events
- Respect individual preferences and choices and advocate for individuals served
- Develop relationships with individuals, families, guardians, and significant others
- Collaborate with Vinfen departments, outside agencies, and community providers
- Attend meetings and trainings, model positive behavior, assist with new-staff orientation, and follow Vinfen policies
Requirements
What you’ll need- Prior experience as a C.N.A., preferably with people with a brain injury
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- CNA license in Massachusetts required
- CPR required within two weeks of hire
- First Aid required within two weeks of hire
- MAP required within 150 days of hire
- Safety Care required within 90 days of hire
- May be asked to obtain CBIS certification (Certified Brian Injury Specialist)
- Valid driver's license required; must be at least 21 years of age, have maintained a valid US driver's license for at least six months, and pass a driver’s screening background check
- Adequate insurance and a safe driving record required when using a personal vehicle
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, lift at least 25 pounds, and assist clients with daily living tasks
- Ability to operate a computer and office equipment
- Ability to communicate with clients, staff, families, guardians, and external representatives
- Knowledge of brain injury, CNA skills, documentation standards, personal computer applications, empowerment and self-advocacy techniques, teaching modalities, and relevant resources
- Ability to work collaboratively, balance competing priorities, make independent judgments, and work confidentially
