About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Responsible for overnight program activities in a community living arrangement
  • Provide individual and group support to persons served
  • Teach skills that enhance independence and quality of life
  • Ensure a safe, secure, and clean residential environment
  • Assist in implementing treatment programs, including ISP/PSTPs and clinical programs
  • Maintain records, behavior and academic data, progress notes, and communication logs
  • Train and support persons served with activities of daily living, personal hygiene, dressing, and household chores
  • Conduct and document fire and safety training
  • Monitor physical and emotional needs and report changes to the supervisor
  • Store, administer, document, and dispose of medication according to MAP requirements, regulations, and company policy
  • Participate in mandated training and staff meetings; assist with new-staff orientation
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies and company policies
  • Perform hands-on support-plan tasks, site safety and maintenance, housekeeping, snow shoveling, and garbage removal
  • Provide transportation as necessary
  • Maintain required staff-to-person-served ratios and provide last-minute coverage
  • Provide physical intervention and/or first aid during behavioral or medical emergencies
  • Serve as a reporter to the Disabled Persons Protections Commission
  • Remain awake, alert, and dressed throughout the entire shift
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Three months to one year of experience in a related function
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Driving required using a Vinfen van or personal vehicle
  • Adequate insurance and a safe driving record required when using a personal vehicle
  • Valid US driver's license presented at employment
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Valid US driver's license maintained for at least six months
  • Ability to pass a driver's screening background check
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, sit, reach, climb stairs, and maneuver through narrow spaces
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift
  • Ability to assist clients with daily living tasks
  • Ability to operate computers, calculators, copiers, and printers
  • Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives
  • Required visual abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, plus focus adjustment
  • CPR required within two weeks of hire
  • First Aid required within two weeks of hire
  • MAP required within 150 days of hire
  • PBS Tier 1 required within 150 days of hire
  • Safety Care required within 90 days of hire
  • Knowledge of communication styles, empowerment and self-advocacy, participatory planning, crisis intervention, advocacy, physical personal management, and household management
  • Teaching skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues
