About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide direct support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential settings
- Assist with developing, implementing, and documenting treatment plans, ISP/IPs, and clinical programs
- Provide training, rehabilitative interventions, behavioral interventions, and support with activities of daily living
- Support appointment scheduling, money management, grocery shopping, meal planning, cooking, household chores, and fire and safety regulations
- Help residents integrate into their communities through outings, recreational and social activities, community travel, and resource services
- Provide transportation as necessary
- Assess residents’ physical and emotional status and report changes to a supervisor
- Monitor residents’ funds as needed
- Maintain records, progress notes, behavior and academic data, electronic health records, communication logs, and other required paperwork
- Store, administer, document, and dispose of medication in accordance with MAC requirements and policies
- Communicate with nurses, funding agencies, case managers, service providers, physicians, and other interested parties
- Participate in mandated training and staff meetings; assist with new-staff orientation
- Ensure program-site safety and maintenance, including housekeeping, lawn mowing, snow shoveling, and garbage removal
- Maintain required staff-to-consumer ratios and provide last-minute coverage as required
- Serve as a human rights advocate and provide physical intervention or first aid during emergencies
- Maintain certifications, respond to work emails, and follow administrative policies
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent required
- At least one year of related experience and/or training preferred
- Valid driver's license required at employment
- At least 21 years of age
- Valid US driver's license maintained for at least six months
- Adequate insurance if using a personal vehicle
- Safe driving record and ability to pass a driver's screening background check
- CPR certification required within two weeks of hire
- First Aid certification required within two weeks of hire
- MAC certification following Connecticut guidelines
- Safety Care certification required within two weeks of hire
- Knowledge of advocacy, empowerment, self-advocacy, participatory planning, crisis intervention, household management, and personal management techniques
- Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Ability to learn and use Microsoft Outlook, electronic health records, and online tools
- Ability to perform physically active work, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, and navigating narrow spaces
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift
- Ability to assist clients with activities of daily living
- Ability to operate computers and office equipment
- Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives
