About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Assist in developing, implementing, and documenting treatment, including ISP/IPs and clinical programs
Provide training, rehabilitative interventions, behavioral interventions, and daily living support
Support household chores, grocery shopping, meal planning, cooking, appointment scheduling, and money management
Help residents integrate into their communities through recreational, social, and community activities
Provide transportation for outings, shopping, appointments, and community travel
Assess residents’ physical and emotional status and report changes to the supervisor
Monitor residents’ funds and maintain records, progress notes, behavior and academic data, and electronic health records
Store, administer, document, and dispose of medication according to MAC requirements and policies
Communicate with nurses, funding agencies, case managers, service providers, physicians, and other interested parties
Participate in mandated training and staff meetings and assist with new-staff orientation
Maintain program-site safety, housekeeping, lawn care, snow removal, and garbage removal
Complete paperwork, communication logs, community membership logs, chore schedules, timesheets, and online records
Maintain required staff-to-consumer ratios and provide last-minute coverage as needed
Serve as a human rights advocate and provide physical intervention or first aid during emergencies
Maintain certifications, respond to work emails, and follow Vinfen policies

Requirements

What you’ll need

At least one year of experience and/or training in a related function is preferred
High school diploma or equivalent is required
Valid driver's license presented at employment
At least 21 years of age
Valid US driver's license maintained for at least six months
Adequate insurance required when using a personal vehicle
Safe driving record and successful driver's screening background check
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, sit, reach, climb stairs, and maneuver through narrow spaces
Ability to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift
Ability to assist clients with activities of daily living
Ability to operate a computer, calculator, copier, printer, Microsoft Outlook, and an electronic health record
Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives
CPR certification required within two weeks of hire
First Aid certification required within two weeks of hire
MAC certification following Connecticut guidelines, as applicable
Safety Care certification required within two weeks of hire
Knowledge of advocacy, empowerment, self-advocacy, participatory planning, crisis intervention, communication styles, and household management
Sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues
Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
