About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide direct support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential settings
- Assist with treatment planning, implementation, documentation, ISP/IPs, and clinical programs
- Provide rehabilitative and behavioral interventions and support with ADLs, household chores, grocery shopping, meal planning, cooking, money management, appointments, and safety regulations
- Support community integration through recreational and social activities, outings, community travel, shopping, church activities, and celebrations
- Provide transportation as necessary
- Assess residents’ physical and emotional status and report changes to the supervisor
- Monitor residents’ funds and maintain records, progress notes, behavior and academic data, electronic health records, communication logs, and other required paperwork
- Store, administer, document, and dispose of medication according to MAC requirements, regulations, and company policy
- Communicate with nurses, funding agencies, case managers, service providers, physicians, and other interested parties
- Participate in mandated training and staff meetings and assist with new-staff orientation
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, site safety, maintenance, housekeeping, lawn mowing, snow shoveling, and garbage removal
- Maintain required staff-to-consumer ratios and provide last-minute coverage when required
- Serve as a human rights advocate and provide physical intervention or first aid during emergencies
- Review and respond to work emails, follow administrative policies, and perform related duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least one year of related experience and/or training preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid driver's license presented at employment
- At least 21 years of age
- Valid US driver's license maintained for at least six months
- Adequate insurance and safe driving record if using a personal vehicle
- Ability to pass a driver's screening background check
- CPR certification required within two weeks of hire
- First Aid certification required within two weeks of hire
- MAC certification following Connecticut guidelines
- Safety Care certification required within two weeks of hire
- Knowledge and use of advocacy, communication, empowerment, self-advocacy, and participatory planning techniques
- Knowledge of personal management, household management, and crisis intervention techniques
- Sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues
- Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Ability to learn and use Microsoft Outlook, electronic health records, and online tools
- Ability to perform physically active work, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, lifting at least 25 pounds, and assisting clients with daily living
- Ability to operate computers and office equipment
- Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives
