About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide direct support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential settings
Assist with treatment planning, implementation, documentation, ISP/IPs, and clinical programs
Provide rehabilitative and behavioral interventions and support with ADLs, household chores, grocery shopping, meal planning, cooking, money management, appointments, and safety regulations
Support community integration through recreational and social activities, outings, community travel, shopping, church activities, and celebrations
Provide transportation as necessary
Assess residents’ physical and emotional status and report changes to the supervisor
Monitor residents’ funds and maintain records, progress notes, behavior and academic data, electronic health records, communication logs, and other required paperwork
Store, administer, document, and dispose of medication according to MAC requirements, regulations, and company policy
Communicate with nurses, funding agencies, case managers, service providers, physicians, and other interested parties
Participate in mandated training and staff meetings and assist with new-staff orientation
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, site safety, maintenance, housekeeping, lawn mowing, snow shoveling, and garbage removal
Maintain required staff-to-consumer ratios and provide last-minute coverage when required
Serve as a human rights advocate and provide physical intervention or first aid during emergencies
Review and respond to work emails, follow administrative policies, and perform related duties

Requirements

What you’ll need

At least one year of related experience and/or training preferred
High school diploma or equivalent required
Valid driver's license presented at employment
At least 21 years of age
Valid US driver's license maintained for at least six months
Adequate insurance and safe driving record if using a personal vehicle
Ability to pass a driver's screening background check
CPR certification required within two weeks of hire
First Aid certification required within two weeks of hire
MAC certification following Connecticut guidelines
Safety Care certification required within two weeks of hire
Knowledge and use of advocacy, communication, empowerment, self-advocacy, and participatory planning techniques
Knowledge of personal management, household management, and crisis intervention techniques
Sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues
Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
Ability to learn and use Microsoft Outlook, electronic health records, and online tools
Ability to perform physically active work, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, lifting at least 25 pounds, and assisting clients with daily living
Ability to operate computers and office equipment
Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives
