About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist physicians, PAs, or NPs with clerical duties, patient flow/care, procedures, and scheduling hospital and ambulatory admissions
  • Schedule and enter diagnostic tests and procedures into the orders management system
  • Coordinate required testing and ensure information and consents are available for admissions/procedures
  • Arrange, type, and distribute surgery schedules
  • Complete necessary patient forms
  • Communicate problems, concerns, or issues to the Supervisor and/or Manager
  • Obtain and document vital signs in the EHR
  • Review and update medication lists and document allergies in the EHR
  • Manage EHR tasking, orders, appointments, referrals, and consult orders
  • Follow universal safety precautions when administering medications and disposing of medical waste
  • Maintain department-specific equipment proficiency and report malfunctions
  • Facilitate transition of care to UCC/Hospital
  • Book and schedule inpatient, outpatient, and special procedures
  • Arrange specialty equipment and services
  • Interact with outside vendors and contracted services
  • Submit necessary documents for hospital and patient procedures
  • Collect pre-admission testing data
  • Apply insurance and pre-certification requirements
  • Reschedule and cancel procedures
  • Log surgical procedures
  • Maintain positive working relationships with physicians and nursing staff
  • Perform other required duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required
  • Medical Assistant Certification Required
  • Heart saver certification required
  • Ability to communicate in English, orally and in writing
  • 2-4 years experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to perform diverse work assignments accurately within time limitations
  • Problem solving, critical thinking, and priority setting skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • Working knowledge of booking and scheduling inpatient, outpatient, and special procedures
  • Understanding of hospital and patient procedure documentation
  • Understanding of pre-admission testing data collection
  • Working knowledge of insurance and pre-certification requirements
  • Working knowledge of rescheduling and canceling procedures
  • Proficiency with department-specific equipment
  • Proficiency with EHR and PMS systems
  • Knowledge of prescription control and refill procedures
  • Ability to follow universal safety precautions and dispose of medical waste
