About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist physicians, PAs, or NPs with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care, and procedures
- Prepare examination rooms and escort patients into rooms
- Clean examination rooms after examinations
- Maintain efficient patient flow and prepare pertinent information for visits
- Communicate and provide care consistent with patients’ age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs
- Answer telephone calls, direct calls, and take accurate messages
- Schedule appointments according to departmental guidelines
- Stock examination rooms and order and maintain supplies
- Reconcile encounters daily according to policy guidelines
- Communicate problems, concerns, or issues to the Supervisor and/or Manager
- Obtain and accurately document vital signs
- Review and update medication lists and document allergies in the EHR
- Enter orders and schedule appointments in the PMS and EHR
- Provide referrals and consultation orders in the PMS and EHR
- Follow universal safety precautions when administering medications and disposing of medical waste
- Maintain proficiency with department-specific equipment, troubleshoot, and report malfunctions
- Facilitate transition of care to urgent care centers or hospitals
- Provide scribing services
- Perform other assigned or necessary duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or equivalent, required
- Graduation from an accredited medical assistant or phlebotomy program, required
- 0–1 year related work experience, required
- Basic Life Support (BLS), or obtain it within 30 days of hire, required
- Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing, required
- Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks in a timely manner, required
- Basic proficiency in computer use, required
- Ability to commute to satellite offices as needed, required
- Understanding and performance within scope of practice
- Proficiency with department-specific equipment
- Ability to use the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Practice Management System (PMS)
