About the role
- Translate business and user needs into intuitive, engaging, and accessible design solutions.
- Design and deliver Drupal-compatible wireframes, mockups, and prototypes using Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch.
- Collaborate with developers to ensure designs translate into Drupal templates and theming layers.
- Apply USWDS standards and Section 508/WCAG 2.1 accessibility requirements across digital products.
- Conduct usability testing, user journey mapping, and iterative design improvements.
- Create branded assets, infographics, and layouts that integrate with Drupal content structures (blocks, views, layouts).
- Design intuitive, 508-compliant interfaces based on usability testing and federal CX policy.
- Develop wireframes, user flows, and prototypes; support iterative design improvements.
- Design intuitive portals for applicants, reviewers, and administrators.
- Lead the end-to-end UX/UI design process for web and mobile applications from discovery through delivery.
- Maintain design consistency through component libraries, style guides, and design systems.
- Advocate for user-centered design in technical and non-technical conversations.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional UX/UI design experience (federal or consulting experience preferred).
- Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or InVision.
- Strong understanding of responsive design principles, interaction design, and accessibility standards (508/WCAG 2.1).
- Experience collaborating in Agile/Scrum environments with developers and product teams.
- Portfolio demonstrating user-centered design processes and impactful project outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
- Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML/CSS, basic JavaScript) is a plus.
- Experience working with government clients or within regulated industries is highly desirable.
- Drupal development experience (knows Drupal architecture and how to create Drupal modules, ideally in Drupal 9).
- US-based and must be willing to commute for potential meetings (preference for Washington D.C. area).
