About the role

  • Provide strategic leadership and authoritative stewardship of the department’s ministerial, parliamentary and cabinet functions.
  • Ensure effective systems, processes and capabilities are in place to meet cabinet, parliamentary and public accountability obligations.
  • Deliver timely, high-quality and trusted advice to Ministers, the Secretary and senior executives.
  • Lead a coordinated and proactive approach to ministerial services, cabinet and committee processes, parliamentary services, briefings and correspondence.
  • Contribute to cohesive executive leadership across the People, Legal and Governance Group.
  • Promote accountability, service excellence and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated executive level experience in the Victorian Public Service, in roles involving ministerial, parliamentary, cabinet, government and legislative processes.
  • Demonstrated record of developing constructive relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders, particularly with Ministers and Ministers’ Offices.
  • Demonstrated experience leading the provision of high quality, authoritative, strategic and operational advice to Ministers, the Secretary and senior executives.
  • Extensive leadership and management experience including the management of staff through complex and challenging environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing the development and management of workforce, budgets, finances, and expenditure.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively identify and assess emerging issues, consider options, and devise effective action plans and innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • A degree in a suitable discipline, such as business, public policy or administration, law, economics, social science or other relevant area is desirable, but not mandatory.
