About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Plan and conduct design sprints, end-user research, usability testing, and reviews.
- Analyze user data to inform design decisions, ensuring that products are both user-friendly and compliant with client objectives.
- Provide specialized expertise in the design and layout of graphical user interfaces, focusing on screen layouts and functionality for client-server applications.
- Create intuitive, efficient, and accessible designs that enhance user experiences.
- Conduct studies, testing, and evaluation of screen prototypes for functionality, ease of use, efficiency, and accuracy.
- Iterate designs based on feedback to refine and perfect the user interface.
- Design user experiences for new and existing web-based applications from concept to completion.
- Develop workflows and experiences that are intuitive, effective, and accessible.
- Communicate ideas effectively through low and high-fidelity mockups.
- Present design concepts and prototypes to stakeholders, incorporating feedback to improve the final product.
- Develop both short-term and long-term UI/UX visions for products, ensuring consistency and coherence across the user experience.
- May mentor and supervise other team members, providing guidance on best practices in UI/UX design and user research.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a UI/UX designer, with a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in web-based and client-server application design.
- Experience conducting usability testing and user research.
- Experience in the government sector, particularly within DHS, is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, or similar.
- Strong understanding of UI/UX principles, with the ability to create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with Agile methodologies and familiarity with DevSecOps environments.
- Experience with accessibility standards and regulations, particularly in government projects.
- Current Public Trust clearance or ability to obtain such clearance.
