About the role

  • Design, develop, and deploy cloud-native applications using AWS services such as Lambda, ECS/Fargate, and API Gateway.
  • Build and maintain integration services supporting enterprise middleware operations, including message routing, data transformation, and partner system connectivity.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as AWS CodeBuild/CodeDeploy, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
  • Author and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using AWS CloudFormation and/or Terraform.
  • Implement DevSecOps practices, including automated testing, security scanning, and configuration validation.
  • Monitor application performance and system health using tools such as CloudWatch, Dynatrace, and Splunk.
  • Ensure compliance with VA security standards, including Zero Trust Architecture, IAM, RBAC, OAuth2, and certificate management.
  • Collaborate with developers, architects, QA, and SRE teams to support Agile delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily standups, and retrospectives.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation including architecture diagrams, data flows, and operational runbooks.
  • Contribute to team objectives and take on additional responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 1–2 years of hands-on experience in AWS cloud application development or design.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines using tools such as AWS CodeBuild, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.
  • Working knowledge of DevSecOps practices, including automated security scanning tools (e.g., Fortify, CodeQL).
  • Familiarity with AWS monitoring and observability tools such as CloudWatch and CloudTrail.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native application design and microservices architecture.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship required, with the ability to obtain and maintain a VA Public Trust (MBI).
  • Additional Qualifications: Experience working in GovCloud or federal cloud environments.
  • Proficiency with AWS services including Lambda, ECS/Fargate, API Gateway, VPC, IAM, and Route 53.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as CloudFormation or Terraform.
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust Architecture, IAM, RBAC, mTLS, and certificate management.
  • AWS certifications such as Developer Associate, Solutions Architect, or DevOps Engineer.
  • Experience with AWS Step Functions, multi-account environments, or cross-account resource sharing.
  • Familiarity with middleware platforms such as MuleSoft or Mirth Connect.
  • Experience with Java (Spring) and/or Node.js or Python development.
  • Knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7 or FHIR.
  • Familiarity with federal compliance standards such as NIST RMF, FedRAMP, or STIGs.
  • Experience supporting VA, DoD, or federal healthcare IT programs.
