About the role
- Ensure payroll tax processes comply with SOX requirements, internal policies, and all federal, state, and local regulations
- Conduct in-depth research using agency websites and tax systems; analyze findings and provide guidance to payroll and tax teams
- Monitor changes in labor and payroll tax legislation and proactively communicate impacts to internal support teams and clients
- Administer compliance platforms to track, organize, and maintain regulatory documentation supporting payroll tax audits and SOX requirements
- Identify non-compliant practices and develop corrective solutions to mitigate risk and ensure regulatory adherence
- Collaborate with clients, accountants, and internal payroll and tax teams to validate data and resolve tax filing and payment issues
- Communicate payroll and tax updates through professional correspondence, including client emails and quarterly newsletters
- Analyze payroll tax returns and supporting documentation to identify discrepancies, errors, and compliance gaps
- Audit internal tax team processes to ensure adherence to established policies, procedures, and control frameworks
- Lead and oversee payroll tax operations and tax system activities to ensure accuracy and integrity of employment tax filings
- Facilitate Compliance Board meetings to review findings, identify systemic issues, and implement process improvements
- Ensure all clients are properly linked to Third-Party Administrator (TPA) accounts for full visibility and accurate tax filing
Requirements
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification
- 5+ years of experience in payroll compliance, payroll tax auditing, and regulatory administration
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with expertise in audit methodologies and risk identification
- High proficiency in Excel, data reconciliation tools, and payroll/tax reporting systems
- Strong knowledge of payroll operations, tax compliance, and federal, state, and local regulatory frameworks
- Ability to clearly communicate audit findings and risk assessments to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational and documentation management skills
- Proven ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines and competing priorities
- Team-oriented professionals with strong interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage small payroll-related projects and initiatives
- Trusted handler of confidential and sensitive employee and client information
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong knowledge of expatriate and inpatriate payroll taxation
- Experience with SAP a plus
