About the role
- Set the vision for Vercel’s flagship events: Establish the editorial calendar and creative direction for Ship, Next.js Conf, and AI Dev Summit, aligning across launches, narrative arcs, and the partner ecosystem.
- Deliver world-class execution: Lead end-to-end planning and stagecraft (budgeting, vendors, programming, production, branding, on-site ops) with clear targets for attendance, NPS, influenced pipeline, and content reach.
- Shape the story: Partner with PMM and leadership to craft keynotes, demos, and narrative arcs; and build a speaker bench of customers, OSS leaders, and partners.
- Maximize impact at sponsored stages: Develop high-impact activations for AWS re:Invent and other key industry events—ensuring Vercel’s presence is unmissable.
- Align events to company goals: Partner with product, developer relations, sales, and marketing to ensure each event drives measurable awareness, demand, and community growth.
- Own the commercial engine: Run P&L, forecast, and model ROI; stand up the event tech stack to attribute impact end to end.
- Scale a high-performing org: Hire, develop, and lead the team, provide dotted-line leadership with design, video, and PMM, and oversee agencies and contractors to deliver at scale.
- Operate globally: Run multi-region timing, localization, and follow-the-sun programming as we expand tier-1 events internationally in 2026.
- Drive measurable outcomes: Establish KPIs for reach, engagement, pipeline impact, and brand lift—and use data to optimize future events.
- Innovate on format and experience: Experiment with in-person, hybrid, and virtual formats that meet our audiences where they are while staying true to Vercel’s developer-first DNA.
Requirements
- Proven large-scale event leadership: 8+ years in event strategy and execution, including multiple years running high-profile conferences or product launches with 1,000+ attendees.
- Experience with global stages: Deep familiarity with industry events like AWS re:Invent, and the creative/operational skill to stand out in competitive environments.
- Strategic + hands-on: You can pitch the big vision to the exec team and then get into the weeds on run-of-show, speaker prep, and A/V requirements.
- Strong commercial sense: Ability to connect event planning to pipeline impact, sponsorship value, and ROI.
- Team leadership: Skilled at building, motivating, and holding high standards for cross-functional and external teams.
- Developer empathy: You understand how to speak to and design for technical audiences—engineers, CTOs, and product leaders.
- Risk & operations excellence: History of delivering complex events on time and on budget with robust contingency planning and compliance.
