About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Ensure the overall integrity, safety, rationality, and effectiveness of the drug use control process for patients in the assigned geographic or specialty area
- Monitor, screen, and verify all drug-related orders for proper dosage, route, dosage form, and administration schedule
- Ensure expedited preparation and dispensing of all dosage forms by pharmacy personnel
- Resolve drug therapy problems and clarify and correct problematic drug orders
- Designate pharmacy technicians to perform special assignments
- Counsel patients regarding the safe and proper use of their medications
- Resolve equipment and operational problems
Requirements
What you’ll need- Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy required or obtained within the first 90 days of employment
- Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy required for continued employment
- Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited academic program
- Must be available to work evenings, nights and weekends
- Ability to lift 20–50 lbs.
- Ability to perform prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing, and reaching
- Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speaking, legible writing, reading, and logical thinking
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, noisy environment, handle multiple priorities, manage frequent and intense customer interactions, and adapt to frequent change
- Minimum one year of pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting preferred
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited academic program preferred
- Previous experience with state-of-the-art drug distribution and clinical service methods, drug information sources, and retrieval and communication methods preferred
