About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Learn, perform, and complete assignments and responsibilities during the transitional duty period
- Provide safe and effective advanced respiratory care for neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations
- Follow discipline training, Clinical Practice Guidelines, hospital standards, and protocols
- Serve as a respiratory care resource and educator for patients, caregivers, hospital staff, and students
- Perform cardiopulmonary assessment and monitoring, including during emergency response
- Provide airway care
- Select appropriate ventilators and non-ordered ventilator parameters
- Consult physicians and interdisciplinary team members regarding the appropriateness of patient care plans
- Maintain work areas in a clean and well-stocked manner
- Perform shift team leader duties in the supervisor’s absence, if applicable
Requirements
What you’ll need- Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Respiratory Therapist required
- Current certification or registry from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required
- Current CPR certification as required by practice setting
- Current license as a Respiratory Therapist by the Commonwealth of Virginia required for continued employment
- Current RRT required for continued employment
- Current NRP certification as required by practice setting
- One (1) year of work experience as a Respiratory Therapist required
- Education, training and/or experience satisfying eligibility requirements for the National Board for Respiratory Care or predecessor organizations
- Current related credentials from the NBRC or National Asthma Educator Certification Board (NAECB) preferred
- Current ACLS and/or PALS preferred
- Two (2) years of work experience as a Respiratory Therapist preferred
- Previous affiliation or work experience in a similar practice setting preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy from a CoARC-accredited program preferred
- May be required to rotate shifts, work weekends and holidays, and take on-call depending on work assignment
- Ability to lift 20–50 lbs.
- Prolonged standing, frequent bending, walking, and overhead/extensive/repetitive reaching
- Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, and logical thinking
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple priorities and frequent/intense customer interactions, and adapt to frequent change
