About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide safe and effective respiratory care as an advanced Respiratory Therapist for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric populations
  • Provide external and internal critical care transport, including stabilization and intervention
  • Provide pre-hospital advanced life-support care to air/ground transport patients from initial contact until care is relinquished to medical staff
  • Serve as a respiratory care resource and educator for patients, caregivers, hospital staff and students
  • Function as shift team leader in the absence of the supervisor
  • Perform cardiopulmonary assessment and monitoring during emergency response
  • Provide airway care
  • Select appropriate ventilators and non-ordered ventilator parameters
  • Consult with providers and interdisciplinary team members regarding patients
  • Deliver and document routine patient care and safely administer prescribed medications
  • Recognize implications of medications with routine versus complicated use
  • Maximize patient and customer satisfaction
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and well-stocked manner
  • May include ECMO management

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Respiratory Therapist required
  • Credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Current CPR and NRP required
  • Current license as a Respiratory Therapist by the Commonwealth of Virginia required for continued employment
  • Current RRT required
  • Current CPR certification as required by practice setting
  • Current NRP certification
  • Current PALS
  • Current ACLS
  • Flight safety training
  • Intubation competency
  • Two (2) years of work experience as a Respiratory Therapist
  • One (1) year of work experience in NICU
  • Education, training and/or experience satisfying eligibility requirements for the National Board for Respiratory Care
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program preferred
  • Required to rotate shifts
  • Work on weekends and some holidays
  • Mandatory on call
  • May be exposed to hazardous situations prior to and during transport
  • May be exposed to extreme weather conditions
  • May work in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift 50–100 lbs.
  • Maximum weight 235 lbs. in street clothes
  • Prolonged standing and sitting; frequent bending; walking; climbing; reaching; repetitive motion
  • Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, logical thinking
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, noisy environment, handle multiple priorities, manage frequent and intense customer interactions, and adapt to frequent change
