About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform assessments and therapeutic interventions with the routine patient population
  • Support team endeavors by performing department and/or team tasks, problem solving and intervention skills
  • Orient other allied health professionals to their field upon the successful completion of their CFY year with the approval of the Department Manager
  • Provide student experiences per approval of the Coordinator of Student Supervision
  • Schedule frequency and intensity of therapy
  • Select assessment instruments and administer assessment
  • Interpret results
  • Complete documentation
  • Plan and carry out treatment strategies
  • Develop long- and short-term goals
  • Perform patient/family/staff education
  • Report at patient/family/team conferences
  • Terminate therapy when appropriate

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • License (or licensure eligible) from the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Speech and Language Pathologist
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in SLP from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or Clinical Fellowship Year candidate
  • New graduate/CFY’s to SLP’s with less than two (2) years of experience
  • Strong Clinical Fellowship Year candidates will be considered
  • Previous clinical experience with evaluation/ treatment of neurogenic, motor speech, linguistic/cognitive communication disorders and swallowing disorders
  • Previous experience performing swallow studies including MBS and bedside assessments
  • Previous experience planning and executing treatment
  • Previous experience with trach management as related to swallowing and communication disorders
  • Previous experience managing complex swallowing and/or communication, linguistic/cognitive disorders
  • Previous work experience in a critical care setting
  • Previous experience with computer-based documentation systems
  • Master's Degree from an ASHA accredited program in Speech and Language Pathology
