Speech Therapist – 12 Week Contract
VCU HealthSpeech Pathologist handling assessments and therapeutic interventions for patients in a hospital setting. Collaborating with healthcare teams and providing guidance to allied health professionals.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform assessments and therapeutic interventions with the routine patient population
- Support team endeavors by performing department and/or team tasks, problem solving and intervention skills
- Orient other allied health professionals to their field upon the successful completion of their CFY year with the approval of the Department Manager
- Provide student experiences per approval of the Coordinator of Student Supervision
- Schedule frequency and intensity of therapy
- Select assessment instruments and administer assessment
- Interpret results
- Complete documentation
- Plan and carry out treatment strategies
- Develop long- and short-term goals
- Perform patient/family/staff education
- Report at patient/family/team conferences
- Terminate therapy when appropriate
Requirements
What you’ll need- License (or licensure eligible) from the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Speech and Language Pathologist
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in SLP from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or Clinical Fellowship Year candidate
- New graduate/CFY’s to SLP’s with less than two (2) years of experience
- Strong Clinical Fellowship Year candidates will be considered
- Previous clinical experience with evaluation/ treatment of neurogenic, motor speech, linguistic/cognitive communication disorders and swallowing disorders
- Previous experience performing swallow studies including MBS and bedside assessments
- Previous experience planning and executing treatment
- Previous experience with trach management as related to swallowing and communication disorders
- Previous experience managing complex swallowing and/or communication, linguistic/cognitive disorders
- Previous work experience in a critical care setting
- Previous experience with computer-based documentation systems
- Master's Degree from an ASHA accredited program in Speech and Language Pathology
