Financial Counselor – Adult Outpatient Pavilion
VCU HealthFinancial Counselor managing patient registrations and insurance validations at VCU Health. Providing customer service and assisting patients with financial responsibilities and benefits.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Registers patients by securing appropriate patient and insurance information
- Validates insurance eligibility and collects co-payments
- Provides quality customer service to patients of all ages, their families, visitors, medical staff, clinicians and co-workers
- Assesses patient financial responsibility through price estimation
- Provides benefit education for all insured and uninsured patients
- Assists patients in securing financial assistance and applicable public benefit options
- Accepts patient payments and reconciles accounts in an unbilled status
- Functions in a self-directed manner to accomplish routine activities
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or closely related field preferred
- Minimum two years of experience requiring customer service skills and patient/customer centered focus
- Previous experience with computers, Microsoft Office software and navigating the Internet
- Previous patient scheduling/registration work experience in a healthcare setting preferred
- Previous work experience in a healthcare setting and knowledge of medical terminology preferred
- Experience with medical insurance preferred
- Ability to analyze financial data to determine documents needed for application approval and/or to establish appropriate payment arrangements
