Associate Director – Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS)

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide leadership to a global team of EHS professionals, ensuring compliance with applicable health and safety regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
- Act as a senior EHS leader across all business areas, championing a harm‑free workplace culture.
- Develop, implement, and drive consistent global EHS policies, procedures, and programmes.
- Partner with business unit leaders, engineering teams and site leadership to ensure effective execution of safety and occupational health strategies.
- Design and deliver global safety and occupational health programmes informed by data, trends, and risk analysis.
- Lead the organisation’s ergonomic design strategy to mitigate occupational health risks.
- Integrate safety and occupational health design criteria into capital projects and engineering designs.
- Lead and manage global programmes including (but not limited to): Machine Guarding, Lockout / Tagout, Powered Industrial Trucks, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics.
- Participate in internal and external audits to assess compliance with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.
- Lead management of change initiatives related to people, equipment, processes and operational changes.
- Proactively identify, escalate, and mitigate risks that could impact employee health and safety or programme success.
- Oversee the implementation of safety and occupational health requirements at new sites, R&D locations and acquisitions.
- Provide robust data analysis, reporting and insight to inform decision‑making and drive measurable improvement.
- Monitor global trends, scientific developments and emerging best practices in safety and occupational health.
- Support the implementation and optimisation of digital EHS management systems.
- Communicate technical solutions clearly and effectively to non‑technical audiences, including senior executives.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in safety, occupational health, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years’ experience as a people leader managing teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Safety, Science, Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Professional certifications are strongly preferred.
- Deep technical knowledge of safety and occupational health; understanding of environmental compliance and sustainability is advantageous.
- Proven experience leading safety and occupational health programmes in large, multi-site, global organisations.
- Demonstrated experience working across Europe, Asia and/or Latin America.
- Fluent English is essential; additional languages are an advantage.
