About the role

  • Run Vanta’s commercial legal function and manage the commercial legal team
  • Oversee and negotiate key customer, partner, and vendor deals in collaboration with global sales and procurement
  • Own all aspects of negotiations with customers and vendors and associated processes
  • Develop new processes and improve existing ones; institute policies while maintaining hypergrowth
  • Manage escalations, collaborate across teams, and develop solutions to enable closing deals
  • Provide counsel to the business regarding environment, challenges, and objectives
  • Oversee management and maintenance of company legal templates (MSA, Privacy Policy, DPA, etc.)
  • Ensure contracts deliver company objectives and mitigate risk
  • Stay up to date on laws and regulations and communicate necessary changes to controls, policies, and procedures
  • Evaluate risk factors impacting business decisions and anticipate unique legal issues
  • Communicate and negotiate with external parties and build trusted relationships
  • Oversee legal operations and address ad-hoc or specialized legal issues
  • Report to the Head of Legal

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience and JD degree from an accredited school with experience negotiating SaaS agreements
  • 5+ years of experience managing a commercial legal team at a hypergrowth technology company
  • Commitment to spend three days per week in our beautiful new San Francisco office
  • Direct experience with strategic business agreements, information security and compliance, privacy, intellectual property rights, international expansion, and management of affiliates
  • Strong negotiating skills with both legal and financial/commercial issues
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of contract & corporate law and procedures
  • Willingness to support teammates across a range of time zones
  • Demonstrated ability to create legal, defensive, or proactive strategies
  • Proven ability to build operationally excellent processes and practices
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves and take on tasks both big and small
