About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop day-to-day communications for the Office of Health Sciences Education
- Create copy for social media, blogs/news, web, email newsletters, and print collateral
- Interview, research, source, and create content with faculty, staff, and students across VU, VUSM, and Vanderbilt Health
- Collaborate with the Associate Director for Strategic Communications on the editorial calendar
- Create social media posts for Instagram, X, Facebook, and LinkedIn
- Schedule posts and monitor engagement across multiple social media platforms
- Contribute to timely email newsletters with OHSE content contributors
- Produce profiles, Q&As, and news stories for the School of Medicine website
- Pitch long-form content to Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt Health news and communications outlets when appropriate
- Monitor VUSM mentions and interactions and ensure adherence to organizational and industry standards
- Supervise a part-time student copywriter
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 2–3 years of copywriting/content creation experience
- Experience writing for non-personal social media, web, and email newsletters
- Strong written and spoken communication skills
- Ability to develop and nurture relationships with students, faculty, and staff
- Excellent grasp of English language and grammar rules
- Ability to adapt to style guides such as Associated Press and VU/VUSM brand guidelines
- Experience with social media scheduling and monitoring tools such as Sprout Social preferred
- Editing, interviewing, and content/background research experience preferred
- Understanding of WordPress, HTML, Emma email marketing software, and Canva preferred
- Comfort with a camera and basic photo and video editing skills preferred
