About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • This position is responsible for executing the environmental and sustainability program at the Valley, Nebraska facility. This includes coordinating with all area management teams to ensure compliance with Valmont Environmental & Sustainability standards and all applicable federal, state, and local environmental requirements as well as managing site-wide sustainability programs.
  • Duties include the timely maintenance and submittal of environmental permits including those required for storm water discharge, Title V air permitting and NESHAP compliance, RCRA hazardous-waste labeling, handling, storage, and reporting including Form R and Tier II submittals and transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  • The person in this role is responsible for reporting Valley’s sustainability metrics to Corporate ESPS and coordinating meetings, agenda, and implementation of Valley sustainability program activities.
  • The incumbent assists, as needed, with other sustainability projects throughout the company and ensures applicable personnel training as it relates to regulatory compliance and environmental standards.
  • This position supports ongoing remediation and management of two closed waste treatment lagoons and other historical environmental liabilities at the site.
  • The position also is responsible for the on-site potable water wells and distribution system, requiring a NE water treatment operator’s certification.
  • The Environmental & Sustainability Manager shall also ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the campus waste yard serving the Valley site and supervises the Hazardous Waste Yard Technicians

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Preferred Bachelors with 6+ years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 8+ years relevant experience
  • Provide oversight for long term remediation related monitoring and collaboration with state and federal regulators overseeing CERCLA and RCRA post closure and remedial investigation monitoring
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Ability to use on-line systems provided by governmental agencies for reporting
  • Certified in or the ability to obtain certification within 12 months of employment: o 24-hour Hazardous Materials Technician Level Training (29 CFR 1910.120)
  • o Hazardous Waste Management Training (40 CFR 262.34 (a) (4))
  • o DOT Hazardous Waste Management Training (49 CFR 172 Sub part H)
  • o RCRA Part B Post-Closure Training (40 CFR 265.16)
  • o HAZWOPER Certification
  • Incumbent shall have or obtain within 1 year a Class IV Water Operator license and maintain with required CEUs.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to clearly and concisely present information to all organizational levels within the company
  • A hands-on leader with visibility on the shop floor to influence and develop partnerships with the various operations.
  • Ability to and manage direct reports and influence and mentor other key team members and site leadership
  • Make effective decisions, even when dealing with limited or ambiguous information
