About the role

  • Foster working relationships with near-port community members residing near the Salt Lake City Intermodal Terminal on the west side of Salt Lake City.
  • Lead and facilitate the Near-Port Community Steering Committee, a group of 20 near-port residents including community leaders and representatives from local nonprofits and community organizations, to get formal input on Climate and Air Quality Planning activities.
  • Effectively organize and manage Near-Port Steering Committee meetings and support.
  • Coordinate mitigation stipends, childcare/dependent care stipends, event venues, food and interpretation services Near Port Community Steering Committee members.
  • Facilitate tabling, workshops, open houses, forums, youth engagement activities, and other public outreach events to present the planned Climate and Air Quality Planning project and collect input, share results, and discuss potential benefits (e.g., health benefits, new job/employment opportunities, etc.) with near-port community members.
  • Draft and coordinate direct communications for Clean Ports Program, including bimonthly newsletter, social media posts, blog posts, and fliers.
  • Support Clean Ports workforce engagement activities by providing coordination and strategy support for data collection efforts as needed.
  • Coordinate with Marketing & Communication Director to publicize information about Climate and Air Quality activities and Near-Port Community Steering Committee events.
  • Provide status reports regarding community engagement and initiative efforts to external and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, or a similar field
  • Background in public information, community engagement, and media with an understanding of government and community member participation concepts
  • Experience in media or public relations, public communications, or marketing
  • Professional experience in community outreach, engagement, public policy, or project management
  • Strong understanding of project management fundamentals to meet project goals and timelines
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple complex activities or tasks of people, groups and/or organizations.
  • Exhibits professional behavior and provides exceptional customer service.
  • Strong desire to learn new skills.
  • Ability to resolve conflict quickly and appropriately.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to produce quality work and adhere to deadlines.
