About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist and support the development, training, and enforcement of occupational safety and health initiatives for utility construction and maintenance services
- Maintain knowledge of utility construction safety and maintenance standards, codes, policies, and guidelines
- Work with the Safety & Workforce Development Manager to monitor, analyze, and interpret changing standards and requirements
- Communicate and collaborate with internal and external teams to provide safety guidance and support
- Provide risk assessment and analysis support
- Assist with developing, implementing, and ensuring compliance with safety policies, practices, and training
- Support field safety audits, incident and accident investigations, inspections, and routine crew visits
- Perform safety training and coach or mentor employees
- Monitor completion of safety training requirements
- Maintain safety reporting systems, files, and records and provide reports as requested
- Coordinate safety and training concerns across business units to promote safety awareness and productivity
- Travel extensively, including overnight travel
- Work flexible schedules, overtime, and emergency duty as requested
- Perform other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school graduate or equivalent required
- Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in safety engineering or related field highly preferred
- 4–6 years’ experience in a corporate safety environment and/or leadership position
- First Aid/CPR/AED skills and ability to conduct training
- CUSP, CSP, or CIH certification preferred
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred
- Knowledge of safety and health standards, codes, policies, and guidelines for utility construction and maintenance
- Ability to read and interpret regulations, industry standards, and contractual requirements
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite products required
- Ability to obtain and/or maintain required licenses, certifications, and documents
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, public speaking, analytical, and strategic-thinking abilities
- Ability to operate or drive trade-related equipment and vehicles preferred
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Examiner’s Card
- Ability to operate a computer terminal for approximately 2–4 non-consecutive hours per day
- Ability to work sustained periods with concentrated attention to detail
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including standing, walking, and working on uneven ground for the full workday
- Ability to see and distinguish colors and hear clearly
- Ability to lift, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work overtime and emergency duty, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as requested
