About the role
- Manage a team in the assessment of learning needs, development, and implementation of learning solutions.
- Consult with clients to develop action plans to close human performance gaps and drive execution to impact business results.
- Identify development needs, define learning requirements, and create learning paths; govern a portfolio of learning solutions aligned to USAA strategies and operational plan.
- Lead a team of Instructional Designers to create high-impact learning experiences and elevate performance across the organization.
- Act as a hands-on manager transforming how learning is designed and delivered while providing leadership and coaching to grow ID and eLearning capabilities.
- Partner with stakeholders to assess learning needs, close performance gaps, and drive business results through innovative solutions.
- Ensure effective instructional delivery, facilitation, coaching, and small-group interactions across multiple learning environments.
- Diagnose learner performance problems, determine underlying causes, and provide recommendations to improve performance.
- Plan, organize, monitor, and control learning projects using appropriate tools and techniques; deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Ensure collection and evaluation of data on learning program effectiveness; collaborate on analysis and evaluation of learning solutions.
- Identify opportunities and facilitate continuous improvement plans for process and program improvements.
- Build and oversee team through recruiting, development, retention, coaching, performance management, and managerial activities.
- Ensure risks associated with business activities are identified, measured, monitored, and controlled per risk and compliance policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- 6 years of progressive operational experience to include training design, development, facilitation, and/or deployment.
- 2 years of direct team lead, supervisory or management experience.
- Advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate complex ideas and concepts to others.
- Experience designing or collaborating custom learning/training programs and/or solutions.
- Command of basic curriculum design and adult learning principles.
- Experience and/or knowledge of needs assessment and curriculum design for diverse audiences and on a broad range of topics.
- Experience and knowledge of implementing aspects of evaluation models for determining training effectiveness (i.e., Kirkpatrick Model).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in instructional design, applying adult learning theories and instructional design models (ADDIE, Mayer, Bloom, Kirkpatrick, Knowles, Merrill, Gagne).
- Minimum 5 years of experience designing and developing eLearning using Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Zenarate, and Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, etc.).
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with Learning Management Systems (Workday Learning, SumTotal, CSOD), SCORM standards, and accessibility best practices.
- Expertise in technical and structured writing methodologies (Information Mapping).
- Proven ability to lead and coach instructional designers in both instructional design and technical execution.
- Practical experience applying project management principles to learning initiatives (scoping, scheduling, resource management).
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and translate business needs into learning solutions.
- Experience leveraging and adopting AI tools and technologies to enhance instructional design workflows and learning experiences.
- US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner.
