Associate Designer – Soft Wovens
URBN (Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie Group, Free People & Nuuly)Temporary Associate Designer facilitating private label product development for Anthropologie's Soft Wovens team. Collaborating across design, technical, and sourcing teams.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support seasonal development calendar in partnership with Designer and Director of Sourcing
- Execute specific design development projects as assigned by the Design Director or Designer.
- Prepare development packages and participate in all communication and follow up related to each package in partnership with the Design Coordinator.
- Manage development and execution of trim packages.
- Set up spec sheets for all bodies.
- Communicate fit and construction details to Technical Design department.
- Complete all technical sketches for domestic and overseas programs.
- Manage weekly fittings.
- DMM should be present and active in the fitting process.
- Major design detail changes must be approved by the DMM before the spec can be changed.
- Maintain an active role in the weekly Design Flow Meeting.
- Take notes and follow up on all outstanding issues
- To support the design ideation process through researching elevated inspiration images
- Working with the Senior Designer and Assistant Director on fashion sketching and embroidery design.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with partners in Buying, Production, and Design.
- Ability to successfully work in a team environment
- Ability to respond to business objectives with creative, innovative, and cost-effective design solutions
- Technical knowledge of knit and/or woven and/or sweaters apparel construction.
- Knowledge of fabric and trims.
- Knowledge of fabric treatments as well as wash and dye techniques
- Knowledge of knit and/or woven and/or sweaters manufacturing techniques and processes.
- Ability to research and report on industry trend direction, color direction, and fabric innovations approximately 9-12 months ahead of season
- Ability to recognize and accurately forecast fashion and cultural trends as they relate to the target customer.
- Expert-ability to sketch or to communicate design ideas via computer program
