Movement Assistant Designer – Performance Outdoor
URBN (Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie Group, Free People & Nuuly)Assistant Designer for Performance Outdoor Apparel in Philadelphia at FP Movement. Contribute to design seasonal collections for Outdoor Performance Apparel categories including run, hike, and court sports.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Translate new ideas for upcoming seasons and presentations by sketching and/or mocking
- Maintain an active role in the weekly Design Flow Meetings
- Take notes and manage follow up communication on all outstanding issues in collaboration with Designer
- Support seasonal development calendar in partnership with designer/buyers/technical designers/production
- Execute specific design development projects as assigned by Designer and manage development and execution of trim and artwork packages
- Set up spec sheets for all private label product & assist Design Lead with market developments & follow-up communication as needed
- Partner with PD on the status of styles in development daily to ensure product execution meets design specifications and are on track in style development process
- Assist in completing technical sketches for domestic and overseas programs, set up spec sheets for all private label product & assist Designer with market developments as well as follow-up communication as needed
- Prepare development packages and participate in follow up communication related to each package
- Review incoming garments with Designer and PD partners to ensure they are correct and in line with original intent as well as brand standards
- Assist in sample preparation for monthly sales review meetings by collaborating with Designer on innovative presentations that effectively communicate line to Buyers and Brand leaders
- Support in executing original design ideas through draped & sewn mocks in preparation for key meetings
- Proactive and willingness to perform special tasks as needed
- Support in office organization of samples, mocking yardage, trims, fabrics, and other design tools
- Photograph samples on model and photo edit as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- 1-3 Years of professional design or related industry experience preferred
- Bachelor Degree in Fashion Apparel Design, Sportswear Design or related preferred
- Design tools: Procreate, Adobe (Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Sewing, draping, mocking experience
- Excellent communication skills to communicate ideas and inspirations to others and to interact with Designers, Buyers and other Cross Functional partners
- Strong organizational skills and ability to intuitively respond and reprioritize as needs shift during the development process
- Entry level technical knowledge of apparel construction
- Entry level knowledge of fabric treatments as well as wash and dye techniques
- Ability to hand sketch and communicate design ideas via computer program
- Ai experience note required but is a plus!
- Ability to relocate to or current residence in or within commuting distance to Philadelphia, PA
