ŌURA

Director, Electrical Modules Quality

ŌURA

Director of Electrical Modules Quality at Ōura, establishing and leading the Core Technology Quality function in a hybrid role. Focused on technical authority in electrical quality across NPI programs.

About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build and grow the Core Tech Quality team: Establish and lead the Core Technology Quality function, recruiting and developing a team of SMEs across batteries, PWBA/SMT, and EE components and modules.
  • Drive deep technical quality ownership: Serve as the primary technical authority on battery, PWBA/SMT, EE component, and EE module quality, owning failure analysis, corrective actions, and qualification strategies across NPI programs from EVT through PVT and into mass production.
  • Define component and material quality standards: Define and enforce quality standards, test methods, and acceptance criteria for batteries, SMT assemblies, and EE components and modules across the supply chain.
  • Champion quality in NPI: Partner closely with Hardware R&D, Process Engineering, and NPI teams to identify and mitigate design and process risks early — with a focus on electrical (battery, PWBA, EE components/modules) failure modes.
  • Lead FA/CA for Core Technology domains: Lead comprehensive Failure Analysis (FA) on battery, PWBA, EE component, and EE module failures; drive root cause identification and implement robust Corrective Actions (CA) through Design of Experiments (DOEs) and Product Release Qualifications (PRQs).
  • Manage supplier quality for core technology components: Set up and manage supplier quality systems at battery, PWBA, and EE component/module suppliers, ensuring reliable data collection, process controls, and accountability for quality deliverables.
  • Monitor and improve production quality and yield: Ensure yield bridging from NPI to mass production for electrical and materials-related quality metrics, proactively addressing process marginalities and quality alerts that impact product performance.
  • Establish quality control parameters: Establish quality control parameters including component specification limits (functional, dimensional, cosmetic, reliability) and critical process control limits for electrical components.
  • Influence design and process improvements: Influence design and process decisions through data-driven analysis, clearly communicating technical risk and quality trade-offs to Hardware, Supply Chain, and senior leadership.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 12+ years of experience in a Supplier, Manufacturing, or Product Quality/Reliability Engineering role, with at least 6 years of people management experience
  • Deep hands-on expertise in battery quality and/or PWBA/SMT quality engineering in a high-volume consumer electronics environment — this is a non-negotiable technical foundation for the role; additional experience with EE components and EE modules is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience leading Failure Analysis (FA) and Corrective Actions (CA) programs, including DOEs and PRQs
  • Proven experience establishing and managing quality systems at suppliers (QMS), including IQC/IPQC/OQC controls, sampling plans, and process audits
  • Expert knowledge of quality engineering principles and tools including GRR, SPC, 8D, FMEA, and DOEs
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing principles and tools such as DFM, GD&T, Six Sigma, and LEAN methodologies
  • Demonstrated experience with Engineering Change Control (ECR/ECN) processes
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex technical data and present it clearly to all levels of the organization, including senior leadership
  • Self-driven and eager problem solver who thrives in demanding, quick-paced environments
  • Well-organized and able to clearly communicate complex issues through slide decks and written communication
  • BS in Engineering (Electrical, Materials Science, Mechanical, or a related field) is required; advanced degree is a plus
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30%.
