About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the Payments team.
- Establish the Payments team’s strategic importance and business value.
- Craft the vision and strategy for the Payments team, and communicate the business value of payments to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with engineering on the team roadmap, bringing context to business objectives and craft frameworks to help the team make decisions.
- Actively collaborate with engineering on service oriented architecture development across all phases of development - design, build, migrate, and operationalize.
- Collaborate with the other commerce teams on shared service development, migration, and ongoing development. Deeply understand their challenges now and in the future to build the right solutions.
- Partner with operational teams - customer experience, member experience, finance, etc. - to set and achieve organizational goals.
- Work directly with payment providers - on integrations, roadmap development, and operational improvements. Enforce partner accountability.
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years experience as a product manager, with a focus on payments. Bonus if in an ecommerce setting.
- Payments experience that extends far “into the stack” - from frontend user experience optimization, to integration, to ongoing operations, to finance.
- Experience in payments infrastructure such as vaulting, ledger systems, routing, tokenization, and optimization.
- A deep understanding of how card payments work, and how to operate within a payments partner ecosystem. Ideally experience in managing partner relationships, including ongoing accountability and negotiations.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines on a distributed team. Experience in enterprise/B2B ecommerce on a global scale.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate well with engineering, and be their internal champion.
- Enough technical knowledge to be “dangerous.” You can write an API spec but not necessarily code to it.
- Experience with different levels of scale. Understanding that the tools and tactics used at early stages might be different from middle stages and large scale stages.
- Excellent prioritization skills, developing frameworks to help distributed teams make decisions and execute.
