About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Portrays characteristics of a patient, family member, health care team member, etc., for the purpose of training and/or assessing health care students and professionals.
- Undergoes interviews and/or physical examination by healthcare trainees or professionals, utilizing scripted materials to portray the specifics of a patient or scenario, including personal history, symptoms, emotional characteristics, and concerns of patients or family members.
- In a non-biased manner, portrays various roles and demeanors, providing an opportunity for health care students and providers to practice or refine communication and examination skills in a safe learning environment before utilizing these skills on actual patients.
- Provides constructive written and verbal feedback, from a patient's perspective.
- Delivers formative feedback regarding interactions with the learner, specifically concerning conduct, communication skills, and medical assessment.
- Consistently and accurately portrays various medical scenarios or cases during mock interviews, live/taped demonstrations and/or physical examinations.
- Responds to basic medical history questions in a standardized manner.
- Improvises appropriately, as needed, when an interview and/or exam does not go as scripted.
- Maintains confidentiality of information related to cases, student behaviors and evaluations.
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or the equivalent required
- 6 months of work or volunteer experience preferred
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in theatre, a medical field or education preferred
- Ability to understand and follow instructions required
- Strong communication skills, both written and spoken
- Strong reading and writing skills to absorb and use the detailed case training and exam procedural information required
- Ability to accurately portray a wide range of roles and scenarios, and to remain in character throughout the interaction with the learner required
- Organization, reliability and punctuality required
- Fluency in more than one language preferred
- Willing and able to work a varied, flexible schedule preferred
