Data Engineer

• Own a scoped domain of dbt models: design, build, test, ship, and monitor them
• Turn ambiguous requests from Marketing and Product into scoped work
• Discuss tradeoffs when requests and timelines do not align
• Write design documents for owned features and break work into pieces teammates can handle
• Add monitoring and alerting to models
• Participate in the support rotation and debug failures
• Prevent recurring issues
• Create runbooks, schema documentation, and diagrams
• Coach early-career engineers through code review and day-to-day work
• Work closely with Marketing, Data, and MarTech on data models supporting offers, lifecycle messages, and partner launches

Engineering Manager

• Lead the Reconciliation team, a full-stack group responsible for Upside’s transaction-matching pipeline across Kotlin Multiplatform front-end and Python + Java back-end systems
• Own the post-claim experience, including transaction verification, cashback awards, and user recovery when issues occur
• Build a safe, collaborative team and invite open discussion
• Drive improvements in quality, performance, speed, and engineering standards
• Coach engineers, recognize achievements, and support skill development
• Set clear expectations so the team can operate independently
• Define and evolve the team’s domain, including offer reconciliation, post-claim consumer experiences, receiptful/receiptless transaction flows, and self-heal capabilities
• Champion accuracy, reliability, observability, scalability, security, resilience, and production readiness across the reconciliation stack
• Contribute hands-on in high-leverage areas as a player-coach
• Model effective use of generative AI for development, debugging, and system understanding
• Partner with Product, Design, Data, Consumer Ops, and external partners on roadmap and strategy
• Collaborate with other engineering leaders on organizational and technical strategy across Consumer and Partnerships platforms

Engineering Manager, Reconciliation

• Clearly defines and maintains the team’s domain boundaries across authentication, event architecture, user research and analytical workflows, internal mobile tooling, app security support, mobile FinOps, and cross-team repos, while leaving room for evolution as Upside’s needs change.
• Champion system-level quality by identifying and addressing gaps in reliability, scalability, security, and performance across our app and API stack.
• Ensure the consumer app platform is secure, cost-efficient, and production-ready, and that the development stacks and tooling enable self-service, repeatable, and trusted workflows.
• Oversee team AI adoption and general exploration strategy to keep our KMP, Python, and Java platforms on the frontier of industry-leading tools and integrations.
• Act as the primary point of contact for internal partners (e.g. Product, Design, Security, and Data Science), ensuring platform capabilities support evolving business needs.
• Represent the Consumer Core team in cross-functional planning, technical councils, and long-term roadmap discussions.
