About the role
- Develop, document, and execute IP strategy in collaboration with businesses and functions
- Contribute to managing UPM’s patent portfolios and supporting IP risk management
- Support the protection of inventions, enforcement of IP rights, provision of patent landscape insights and risk information, and development of internal IP practices in collaboration with relevant stakeholders
- Provide IP advisory support to new business development initiatives
- Help build IP awareness across the organization and demonstrate how IP can be used effectively to create value and support business growth
Requirements
- You hold a master’s degree in engineering, chemistry, materials science, or a related field
- You have at least two years relevant practical experience as a patent attorney in an in-house IPR function, as a patent examiner, or in private practice.
- Qualification for representation before a national or regional patent office (e.g., national patent attorney or European Patent Attorney) is considered an asset.
- You approach your work proactively, can move tasks forward with focus and accountability, and are able to meet deadlines while prioritizing effectively.
- You can identify essential issues and communicate them clearly in writing.
- You work well with others and value collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- You communicate clearly and are fluent in spoken and written English. Additional language skills are considered an asset.
- You are comfortable taking responsibility for your work, navigating differing viewpoints, and contributing to shared decisions with a variety of stakeholders.
