About the role

  • Responsible for the identification, abstraction, and entry of trauma-specific variables for all identified trauma patients.
  • Review and analyze the medical record for pre-hospital information, injuries, and inpatient procedures.
  • Code injuries and procedures utilizing the Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) and ICD-10 CM and PCS coding system.
  • Assist with generating trauma registry reports and maintaining documentation within trauma registry summaries.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of trauma data to required registry softwares and state/national databanks.
  • Contribute to data validation efforts and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Attend educational programs, training sessions, and conferences relating to trauma data collection.

Requirements

  • High School Graduation or equivalent (required)
  • Associate of Science or Bachelor of Science degree in related healthcare field (preferred)
  • One year in healthcare or related position (required)
  • 2+ years in healthcare data support position (preferred)
  • Certified Abbreviated Injury Scaling Specialist (CAISS) certification within 2 years of hire (required)
  • Certified Abbreviated Injury Scaling Specialist (CAISS), Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) (preferred)
