About the role
- Lead and oversee complex general ledger tasks and closing activities: ensure high-quality execution of general ledger entries, reconciliations, intercompany settlements, valuation issues, and cross-functional adjusting entries — aiming to minimize management effort.
- Drive improvements in general ledger processes, tools, and internal controls: identify weaknesses in accounting processes, design optimizations, standardize procedures, and contribute to S/4HANA optimization and automation initiatives.
- Coordinate and perform central monthly and annual close activities (HGB): prepare complex journal entries, provisions, accruals, and valuation adjustments; ensure compliance with accounting policies and the requirements of external audit and internal review.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert for internal and external stakeholders: act as the primary contact for complex accounting questions, support auditors and tax advisors, and work closely with Accounts Payable/Receivable (AP/AR), Merchant Accounting, Controlling, and Treasury.
- Prepare and validate financial information for BaFin, Deutsche Bundesbank, CSSF (Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier), and FSA (Financial Supervisory Authority): ensure the accuracy and completeness of data transferred from the general ledger into all relevant regulatory reporting systems.
Requirements
- Strong technical expertise in general ledger accounting under HGB (German Commercial Code); IFRS knowledge is an advantage.
- Solid SAP S/4HANA experience (GL, FI, interfaces) and the ability to identify system optimization needs.
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in accounting, external audit, or financial reporting.
- Ideally an additional qualification, e.g., certified balance sheet accountant (Geprüfter Bilanzbuchhalter).
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to independently handle complex accounting issues.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large data sets.
- Excellent prioritization skills, deadline discipline, and ability to collaborate across teams.
