About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide complex paralegal assistance to attorneys
- Serve in a lead role by directing and/or mentoring Paralegals and Senior Paralegals as needed
- Conduct legal research and complex analysis
- Locate information for attorneys and internal and external authorities
- Interview company employees to develop detailed information on Unum operations
- Review, analyze, summarize, and organize documents
- Prepare draft responses of legal documents
- Ensure legal documentation is processed in compliance with legal requirements
- Lead or assist with large projects and support other paralegals
- Assist with witness preparation for depositions and trials
- Coordinate with in-house and outside counsel
- Renew, research, and process garnishments, levies, bankruptcies, child support orders, and other legal withholding orders
- Process and respond to subpoenas, authorization agreed orders, and other legal process
- Prepare and file answers with courts and administrative tribunals
- Maintain and update RFP responses and RFP tracking systems
- Support complex bankruptcy matters and maintain related legal documentation and case updates
- Research and create legal education training tools
- Interface with transfer agents and manage due diligence requests
- Complete and file forms with the SEC, NYSE, and other organizations
- Manage officer and director information
- Review discovery responses and maintain case tracking systems, discovery databases, and document libraries
- Work with counsel on discovery strategy, responses, and pleadings
- Perform in-depth document review
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma
- A minimum of a paralegal certificate and 3 years of paralegal experience or seven (7) years of paralegal experience
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Excellent interpersonal relation skills
- Excellent word processing, math, and research skills
- Demonstrated independent critical thinking and judgment
- Demonstrated ability to train/mentor Paralegals and Senior Paralegals
