Accountant

• **PURPOSE OF POSITION:**
• Under the general supervision of the Director of Financial Reporting and Comptroller, the Senior Accountant provides basic accounting support for fundamental business operations of the University System of Maryland Office (USMO) and assists in the accumulation and compilation of financial information of the various Institutions comprising the University System of Maryland (USM), in accordance with identified external and internal constraints and guidance.
• **RESPONSIBILITIES:**
• **General Accounting Processes:**
• - Performs various accounting processes, including but not limited to:
• - Accounts payable processing and monitoring
• - Working fund reconciliations
• - Invoice preparation
• - Interinstitutional transactions
• - Following up on collections
• - Provides accounting for the USMO’s fixed asset inventory, ensuring full compliance with the USMO Policy on Equipment Control.
• - Prepares the semi-annual schedule of changes in fixed assets, which supports the development of the USM’s interim and annual audited financial statements.
• **Financial Statements:**
• - Provides accounting assistance and support in the periodic preparation of the SystemOffice and USM financial statements and other periodic and ad-hoc financial reporting needs.
• **Endowment Funds:**
• - Provides accounting and other administrative support associated with the USM’s endowment funds, known as the Common Trust Fund.
• **Maryland Education Enterprise Consortium (MEEC) Accounting:**
• - Maintains accounting records.
• - Prepares periodic financial statements.
• - Reconciles dues, surcharge fees outstanding, and credit card payments.
• - Responds to other ad hoc requests as required.

Senior Accountant

Auditor

• Lead and manage audit engagements ranging from straightforward reviews to complex, multi-faceted audits.
• Develop tailored audit programs, oversee all phases of the audit process, and collaborate with other lead auditors to ensure high-quality outcomes.
• Perform operational and financial audits pertaining to all aspects of USM activities: planning, researching, interviewing, conducting field-work, and reporting.
• Ascertain whether university organizational units perform planning, accounting, custodial, or control activities consistent with university objectives and policies.
• Perform audits in accord with approved audit programs consistent with IIA's International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
• Recommend methods of obtaining, analyzing, and evaluating evidentiary data to form opinions on adequacy and effectiveness of controls and efficiency of activities under review.
• Suggest methods for implementing new or revised procedures to provide effective internal control and improve audit trails.
• Evaluate accounting and reporting systems' ability to generate reliable and timely data and analyze cost accounting systems.
• Discuss observed conditions with operating personnel to verify facts and obtain explanations; apply automated auditing techniques when reviewing computerized data.
• Function as lead auditor in charge of other auditors on certain engagements and orient new auditors into the Internal Audit Department.

Internal Auditor

Manager

• Lead a team leveraging Workday applications that cross HR, finance, payroll and Adaptive
• Responsible for day-to-day operation and scheduling of various leads based on current priorities and needs
• Work collaboratively with the Consortium’s HR, Finance, IT leaders, and Maryland state organizations that interface with the Consortium
• Provide guidance and leadership to constituent consortium teams to maximize the benefits of Workday in solving problems and enhancing operations
• Interface with Workday to maintain knowledge of product enhancement and security updates and communicate with central and campus team members
• Offer insights and recommendations to streamline Workday cross-application processes, improve data accuracy, and enhance the user experience
• Maintain documentation of cross-application-related system configurations, processes, and changes
• Support training efforts for tenants and cross-application activities
• Support efforts to resolve Tier 3 & 4 issues (Service Desk tickets)
• Liaise with central and campus compliance and data privacy leads
• Troubleshoot technical issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions to ensure system stability and reliability
• Analyze existing technology processes, conduct gap analyses, and contribute to the design and transformation of workflows
• Advise on best practices for optimizing the use of Workday cross-application features
• Develop systems and structures as templates for institutions to use in execution of internal and cross-cutting projects
• Lead Workday cross-application system upgrades, enhancements, testing validation, and overall performance
• Collaborate across Workday support teams and business functions to support system functions and maintain integration-related documentation
• Stay abreast of Workday releases, new features, and best practices and implement technology changes as needed
• Serve as a key liaison with third parties and other internal stakeholders supporting automation
• Work with campus stakeholders and the user community to identify and scope process and system improvements
• Work with the executive director to facilitate cross-application governance groups and prioritization of processes
• Lead and supervise projects and activities to implement best practices and drive business growth

Workday Technical Manager

Financial Planning and Analysis

• Consults with and advises the Finance departments of the Maryland Connect Consortium universities
• Leverages Workday Financials, Procurement, Expenses, and Grants products to streamline related processes
• Provides guidance and leadership to consortium finance teams to maximize Workday benefits
• Interfaces with Workday to maintain knowledge of product enhancements and shares information with central and campus teams
• Offers insights and recommendations to streamline reporting, improve data accuracy, and enhance user experience
• Maintains documentation of finance-related system configurations, processes, and changes
• Supports training efforts for Finance, Adaptive, Procurement, Expenses, and Grants modules
• Supports resolution of Tier 3 & 4 issues (Service Desk tickets) and liaises with compliance and data privacy leads
• Analyzes business processes, conducts gap analyses, and contributes to workflow design and transformation
• Advises on best practices and recommends functionalities aligning with institutional goals
• Develops systems and templates for internal and cross-cutting projects
• Leads Finance, Adaptive, Procurement, and Grants system upgrades, enhancements, testing validation, and performance optimization
• Collaborates across Workday support teams and business functions and documents integration-related functions and processes
