About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide comprehensive HR support to employees and leaders across the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee
- Serve as the primary HR liaison and main point of contact for assigned client groups
- Consult on HR policies, procedures, employment law, best practices, and core HR functions
- Interpret, advise on, apply, and disseminate complex policies, procedures, and options
- Recommend strategies aligned with established objectives and goals
- Facilitate and process complex HR transactions and programs
- Audit human resources reports for compliance
- Develop and implement processes and procedures for employee training, recruitment, compensation, and payroll
- Respond to inquiries in person, by email, and through other communication mediums
- Relay information to appropriate entities
- Contribute to strategic plans and direct staff implementation of initiatives aligned with strategic goals
- Collaborate with departmental leadership to develop and implement HR strategies aligned with organizational goals
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least two years of professional experience in one or more human resources disciplines
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field OR equivalent professional experience
- Experience serving as an HR Business Partner or in a similar advisory role within a higher education institution or other complex organization
- Ability to work independently while advising and supporting leadership on a broad range of HR matters
- Experience across multiple human resources disciplines, such as recruitment, employee relations, and training
- Experience analyzing, interpreting, and/or reporting data to support workforce strategy and planning
- Knowledge and practical experience applying employment laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines, such as FMLA and FLSA
- Coursework in Human Resources Management and/or current HR certification, such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR
- Problem-solving experience in employee relations matters
- Legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire; position does not offer visa sponsorship
- Ability to complete an I-9 employment eligibility verification form
- Cover letter and resume required
- Three professional or supervisor references required for finalist candidates
- Criminal background check required
