About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Develop stories for broadcast and digital platforms about arts and culture news and community-related events and issues affecting Milwaukee and the surrounding region
Develop special projects, including events and collaborations with producers, reporters, and local public media stations
Research, prepare, and report balanced, issue-oriented, analytical stories from Milwaukee and southeastern Wisconsin
Select sources, conduct and record interviews, and write scripts using editorial judgment
Edit audio and video to create broadcast spots or features, talk show segments, digital articles, social media posts, and vertical video
Maintain contacts on continuing stories and research topic areas for in-depth reports
Collaborate with the communications team and editors on long-term and short-term multimedia projects
Research and develop production strategies for programs across broadcast and digital platforms
Collaborate with content creators through pre- to post-production, prepare materials, and handle publication logistics
Produce, develop, and edit multimedia content, including topics, themes, guests, pre-interviews, interviews, writing, and content integration
Perform daily operational activities for live and pre-recorded content and help direct editorial and creative production processes
Schedule and direct operational activities for live, recorded, studio, and field productions

Requirements

What you’ll need

Demonstrated ability to discover and produce in-depth, issue-oriented stories for broadcast and digital platforms
Bachelor’s degree and one year of related experience, or 5 years of experience in broadcast journalism
Two years of experience working specifically with or covering diverse populations related to the arts and culture community (preferred)
Demonstrated familiarity with southeastern Wisconsin issues (preferred)
Demonstrated knowledge of WUWM and/or public radio (preferred)
Audio editing experience (preferred)
Vertical video production experience (preferred)
Ability to work weekdays, evenings, and occasional weekends
Means of transportation for off-site reporting and interviews
Must provide a cover letter, resume, and three work examples/samples
Finalists must provide three professional/supervisor references
Employment requires a criminal background check
Must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States at start date
