About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide financial support to program managers and the director managing federal and state grants, a fee-for-service program, and smaller funds
- Liaise with the School of Medicine and Public Health and campus on financial reporting, budget management, invoicing, transaction tracking, travel and expense reimbursement, purchasing, event payments and refunds, and gift processing
- Execute and guide financial and accounting transactions across multiple finance functional areas
- Create and review financial transactions and prepare financial reports and budgets
- Participate in day-to-day financial operations to ensure accurate transactions and reports
- Guide other staff where needed
- Recommend and implement fiscal policies and help develop and implement systems and processes improving customer service, efficiency, and internal controls
- Organize, prepare, and update financial statements, journal entries, accounts, ledgers, and reports
- Analyze financial data and investigate discrepancies, recommending and implementing solutions
- Prepare budgets and projections based on existing data and established policies and procedures
- Develop and maintain automated financial systems and recommend controls for reliability and data integrity
- Answer accounting-related questions for internal and external stakeholders
- Assist with accounting and review reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and reports
- Prepare and/or approve financial transactions and payments
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least 2 years of demonstrated experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial duties, including budgeting, financial projections, reconciliations, journal entries, and complex financial reporting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or Smartsheets, including complex formulas and pivot tables for financial dashboards
- Strong oral and written communication skills for explaining complex financial data
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workloads, manage multiple projects and deadlines, and follow through independently
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex budgets and financial transactions
- Willingness to investigate invoices, charges, and payments, identify discrepancies, and facilitate timely resolution
- Ability to interpret and apply financial regulations and compliance policies
- Detail-oriented commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting
- Ability to work with high-level professionals in healthcare facilities and engage empathetically across rural, small-town, tribal, and urban cultural settings
- Experience in a highly regulated environment such as a university or government organization preferred
- Relevant-sector experience preferred
- Familiarity with financial management of grants and complex award-management accounting preferred
- Experience with online enterprise applications such as Workday preferred
- Experience with complex automated accounting systems and processes, including databases and queries, preferred
- Experience with Zoom and Teams preferred
- University sponsorship is unavailable; must maintain eligibility to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
- Must provide proof of work authorization and eligibility to work
- Employment may require a criminal background check
