About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversees, reviews, develops, recommends, and implements policies and procedures for internal and external financial reporting, budgeting and financial operations
- Determines personnel needs and the personnel resource allocation plan
- Serves on various university committees, working with a wide range of constituencies including the Administrative Council, Financial Manager Meeting, Budget Office, the University of Wisconsin system office, Division of Business Services, and University Leadership
- Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes objectives for multiple finance functional areas to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources and alignment with the strategic plan
- Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
- Serves as a divisional representative and subject matter expert to institutional leadership and internal and external stakeholders providing financial direction and information, fostering collaborative relationships across multiple functional areas, and representing the interests of the division
- Serves as a member of the DoIT executive team, leading and supporting university and divisional initiatives
- Participates in the development, maintenance, and monitoring of automated financial information systems and budgets, and disseminates updates and results to leadership when appropriate
Requirements
What you’ll need- Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, and developing a team of finance professionals across in-person, hybrid, and remote environments.
- Demonstrated experience working with and applying fund accounting structures, restrictions, and practices unique to public sector organizations, higher education, or government entities.
- Demonstrated experience translating complex financial data into actionable insights for stakeholders such as executive leadership, campus partners, and non-financial stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience managing and completing fiscal year-end close activities including reconciliation and reporting for at least three consecutive fiscal years in a supervisory role.
