About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide comprehensive outpatient evaluation and management for patients with obesity, overweight, and associated metabolic conditions
  • Perform patient assessments, physical examinations, obesity-related risk assessments, and evaluations of contributing factors to weight gain
  • Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating lifestyle modification, nutrition counseling, physical activity, behavioral modification, and pharmacologic therapies
  • Prescribe and manage FDA-approved anti-obesity medications
  • Monitor treatment effectiveness, medication tolerance, and patient progress
  • Evaluate and manage obesity-related comorbidities including type 2 diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, obstructive sleep apnea, fatty liver disease, metabolic syndrome, and PCOS
  • Order and interpret diagnostic testing and laboratory studies
  • Provide longitudinal follow-up care and patient education
  • Collaborate with bariatric surgery teams and coordinate care with primary care and specialty services
  • Document patient encounters in the electronic medical record
  • Participate in telehealth services as appropriate
  • Collaborate with medical students, residents, fellows, APP students, and allied health learners
  • Participate in conferences, continuing education, multidisciplinary meetings, quality improvement, clinical research, presentations, publications, and program development
  • Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based obesity medicine guidelines and emerging therapies
  • Promote patient-centered, culturally competent, and stigma-free obesity care
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and institutional initiatives
  • Maintain professional licensure, certifications, and credentialing requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • APRN: Master’s Degree in Nursing in Family Medicine or Adult Gero Primary Care
  • APRN: Three years of nursing experience
  • APRN: Licensed Registered Nurse in Arkansas
  • APRN: Arkansas APRN License
  • APRN: One year of APRN experience in a Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Clinic
  • APRN: National certification in Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult Gero Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, or Family Nurse Practitioner
  • PA: Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant
  • PA: One year of PA experience in Family Medicine or Adult Gero Primary Care
  • PA: PA License
  • Previous experience in infectious diseases, internal medicine, primary care, hospital medicine, or related specialty preferred
  • Experience managing chronic infectious diseases
  • Experience working in an academic medical center environment
  • Interest in antimicrobial stewardship, quality improvement, or clinical education
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
  • Previous experience in obesity medicine, endocrinology, primary care, family medicine, internal medicine, bariatrics, or lifestyle medicine
  • Experience managing chronic metabolic diseases and anti-obesity pharmacotherapy
  • License or certificate required for application
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
  • Pre-employment criminal background, drug testing, and/or education verification screening
  • Ability to perform stated physical activities and work inside a medical facility with biological, radiation, and sharp-object hazards
