About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Send specimens to referral laboratories according to hospital and laboratory policies and state and federal regulations
- Verify appropriate orders have been submitted
- Enter results from referral laboratories into the laboratory information system
- Assist with inventory, quality control, and other laboratory duties as assigned
- Perform testing of patient samples
- Interpret, review, and prepare patient test results for review by the Supervisor and/or Medical Director
- Maintain quality control and quality assurance, assess acceptability, and take corrective action as required
- Perform function checks on analyzers, lab equipment, and automation equipment
- Complete machine maintenance and calibrations and troubleshoot problems
- Work with service representatives to facilitate instrument repairs
- Coordinate acquisition, testing, and reporting of patient test results with staff from various departments
- Conduct inventory counts, restock supplies, report supplies to be ordered, and store received supplies according to requirements and regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Sciences, or an approved ASCP discipline
- Approved ASCP discipline requires 30 semester hours in biology and chemistry, which may be obtained within or in addition to the Bachelor's degree
- ASCP certification must be obtained within one year of employment
- Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
- Must complete annual TB screening
- Must pass criminal background screening, with possible drug testing and education verification
