About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Send specimens to referral laboratories according to hospital and laboratory policies and state and federal regulations
  • Verify appropriate orders have been submitted
  • Enter results from referral laboratories into the laboratory information system
  • Assist with inventory, quality control, and other laboratory duties as assigned
  • Perform testing of patient samples
  • Interpret, review, and prepare patient test results for review by the Supervisor and/or Medical Director
  • Maintain quality control and quality assurance, assess acceptability, and take corrective action as required
  • Perform function checks on analyzers, lab equipment, and automation equipment
  • Complete machine maintenance and calibrations and troubleshoot problems
  • Work with service representatives to facilitate instrument repairs
  • Coordinate acquisition, testing, and reporting of patient test results with staff from various departments
  • Conduct inventory counts, restock supplies, report supplies to be ordered, and store received supplies according to requirements and regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Sciences, or an approved ASCP discipline
  • Approved ASCP discipline requires 30 semester hours in biology and chemistry, which may be obtained within or in addition to the Bachelor's degree
  • ASCP certification must be obtained within one year of employment
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
  • Must complete annual TB screening
  • Must pass criminal background screening, with possible drug testing and education verification
  • Required application materials: three professional references, resume, and unofficial/official transcript(s)
