About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Supports all sections of the Clinical Outpatient Laboratory through proper phlebotomy techniques as well as proper specimen accessioning, processing, and related activities.
  • Use of correct blood collection tubes, ordering correct test from requisitions.
  • Match identifiers to information on requisition and labels.
  • Obtain blood from patient using proper phlebotomy techniques for clinical or medical testing, transfusions, donation, or research.
  • Resolve specimen and patient problems as they arise.
  • Follows all UAMS Department of Pathology Policies and Procedures for blood collection.
  • Obtains patient specimens at an acceptable rate.
  • Greet patients and verify their identity.
  • Adheres to lab policies, HIPAA, and Universal Precautions.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School, GED, or formal educational equivalent required.
  • One (1) year of laboratory experience.
  • Proficient in following proper specimen collection procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate specimen labeling and documentation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory procedures
  • One (1) year of experience working in a clinical laboratory or as a medical assistant and CPR, CAN, PBT, MLA, or CPT Certification preferred.
  • National Phlebotomy Certification (ex. ASCP, AMT, etc).
