About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support United Way’s food security team in reducing hunger with a focus on federally funded child nutrition programs.
- Provide programmatic communications, marketing, project coordination, advocacy, and program support.
- Develop engaging written and visual materials that support United Way’s food security work.
- Translate complex program and policy information into accessible materials for various audiences.
- Draft and support content for partner- and community-facing materials, including blog posts, newsletters, presentations, social media content, and reports.
- Create impactful print and digital materials using Canva or other design tools.
- Provide logistical and communications support related to food security advocacy priorities.
- Assist with the creation of briefing materials, talking points, and other tools that communicate policy priorities.
- Coordinate high quality in-person and virtual events advancing food security priorities.
- Provide communications, administrative, and project coordination support for broader statewide food security initiatives.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit management, public policy, or a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of social and racial justice and equity, with a proven commitment to apply racial and economic justice lenses in both personal and workplace contexts.
- Lived experience and/or demonstrated professional skills working within a diverse work environment.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Ability to tailor communications, including blogs, reports, social media content, and other mediums, for a variety of audiences and platforms.
- Basic proficiency using Canva or similar graphic design platforms to create visually engaging materials.
- Interest in public policy, advocacy, and systems change related to food security. Previous policy experience is not required.
- Ability to quickly and concisely synthesize large amounts of information.
- Ability to execute at a high level, with strong follow-through, in fast-paced environments with tight deadlines.
- Ability to multi-task; effective time and project management skills; able to independently plan projects from inception to execution.
- Passion for helping alleviate hunger in our community.
