About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Secure patient accounts financially for endoscopy and hospital procedures and office visits
- Verify and thoroughly document insurance benefits using Greenway and Authorization Worklist
- Manage referrals and authorizations
- Monitor pending accounts and notify office and managerial staff about postponements or cancellations
- Answer the internal FC phone line and assist employees with verification and billing issues
- Work with self-pay patients and patients with outstanding balances or time-of-service deposits to establish payment plans
- Assist with patient voicemail, document import, and patient portal tasks
- Complete special verification assignments
- Calculate and notify patients of payments, outstanding balances, and deposits due
- Collect, record, and update patient demographic and insurance information
- Counsel patients and relatives regarding payment for medical treatment or procedures
- Answer emails and voicemails promptly
- Complete information requests from United Digestive staff
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and confidentiality
- Participate in staff meetings and marketing activities
- Complete other duties and special projects as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED required
- 3–5 years of insurance verification, prior authorization, and precertification experience in a medical setting
- Gastroenterology experience preferred
- Computer literacy
- Ability to type 40 words per minute
- Ability to operate practice and Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Attention to detail
- Certified Financial Counselor, Certified Patient Account Representative, or similar certification is a plus
- Ability to assist patients, visitors, coworkers, and physicians courteously and respectfully
- Professional, outgoing, warm, and helpful attitude
- Compassion when assisting ill people
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete multiple delegated tasks
- Ability to work under pressure and communicate issues promptly
- Clear and professional communication with patients and coworkers by telephone, email, and in person
- Ability to interpret and apply clinical and non-clinical best practices
- Ability to sit and stand in a normal office environment
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
