About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop, maintain and test COBOL solutions to meet business needs
- Define functional and non-functional requirements
- Prepare detailed technical solutions, estimate effort and delivery timelines
- Write code and perform unit and integration testing, fixing defects and optimizing code performance
- Promote and implement software development and maintenance best practices, providing technical guidance to the team and encouraging innovation and continuous improvement
- Ensure compliance with security standards and regulations applicable to software development
- Conduct impact analyses for proposed changes, ensuring all stakeholders are aware of the implications.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Knowledge and experience in application development using COBOL
- Experience working in team environments using Agile methods such as SCRUM or Kanban
- Degree: Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field
- Knowledge of code quality and performance analysis for mainframe applications
- Nice to have: Experience developing in Unisys mainframe environments (COMS, DMSII, SDF, CANDE)
- Knowledge of automated unit and integration testing (TDD/ATDD) for COBOL routines
- Knowledge of BDD (Behavior-Driven Development) practices
- Knowledge of integration technologies (e.g., APIs, Web Services)
- Experience mentoring and training developers
- Familiarity with visual modeling and prototyping tools
- Experience with SQL (Structured Query Language)
