About the role
- Design and Implement Database Solutions: Develop and deploy database solutions that meet business requirements and ensure scalability.
- Database Installation and Configuration: Install, configure, and maintain database systems, ensuring they are optimized for performance and reliability.
- Ongoing Administration: Perform regular database maintenance tasks, including backups, updates, and patches.
- Monitor Database Performance: Continuously monitor database performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Optimize Queries and Indexes: Analyze and optimize SQL queries and indexes to enhance database efficiency.
- Capacity Planning: Plan and manage database capacity to ensure optimal performance and resource utilization.
- Develop and Implement Backup Strategies: Create and maintain comprehensive backup strategies to ensure data protection.
- Disaster Recovery Planning: Develop and implement disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity in case of data loss or system failure.
- Regular Testing: Conduct regular tests of backup and recovery procedures to ensure they are effective and reliable.
- Ensure Data Security: Implement security measures to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access and breaches.
- Compliance with Policies: Ensure database systems comply with data retention, privacy, and security policies.
- Manage Access Controls: Configure and manage access controls to ensure that only authorized users have access to the database.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) and mentor to junior staff.
- Lead Database-related projects and participate in cross-functional initiatives.
- Engage with vendors and service providers for support, upgrades, and procurement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field; equivalent experience accepted.
- 12+ years of experience in Enterprise Database administration.
- Expert-level knowledge of RDBMS (SQLSERVER PostgreSQL etc)
- Strong hands-on experience in at least any of the two database platforms like Microsoft SQL.
- Proficiency in AWS / Azure Database Skills.
- Experience with scripting (PowerShell, Python, Shell) and automation tools.
- Knowledge of data replication and high availability technologies.
- Experience with Data migration strategies and tools.
- Solid understanding of data lifecycle management, data retention, and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Demonstrates an authoritative and professional manner in verbal, written and telephone communications.
- Adheres to procedures, maintains records and demonstrates commitment to solving user problems.
- Demonstrates a systematic, disciplined, and analytical approach to problem solving.
- Strong customer interface skills communication & ability to deliver presentation drive meetings.
- Ability to adapt in a rapidly changing environment, work effectively under high pressure and growth mode.
