About the role
- Conduct desk-based research and data collection on trade shows in selected African countries, including structured online searches and database screening (e.g., UFI, AAXO, national chambers, RECs, industry associations).
- Support the development and application of a standardized survey and mapping template for compiling trade show profiles, ensuring the inclusion of business-relevant indicators and, where possible, gender-responsive data.
- Engage with trade show organizers to obtain missing information and verify the accuracy of collected data.
- Review and analyze collected data on African trade shows and their potential relevance for German business delegations.
- Identify German trade shows aligned with the product, service, or technology portfolios of African companies, using sectoral relevance and inputs from UNIDO ITPO Germany.
- Draft concise profiles of Germany-based trade shows, summarizing market relevance, exhibitor/visitor structure, thematic focus, and potential benefits for African delegations.
- Support needs assessments of African trade show organizers and delegations seeking participation in German trade shows, as well as the design of tailored capacity-building activities in collaboration with partner organizations.
- Prepare presentations, briefs, and knowledge products to communicate preliminary insights and support internal and external consultations.
Requirements
- Enrolled in a second level university degree programme (master's or equivalent) or higher; or begin the internship within one year of completing a second level university degree; or be enrolled in the final academic year of a first degree programme (bachelor's or equivalent); or begin the internship within one year of completing a first level university degree.
- Field of specialization: Trade and Investment Facilitation, Development Economics, International Affairs.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
- Knowledge of another official United Nations language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
- Prior experience in trade show organization and in German–African cooperation is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in relevant software tools, including familiarity with ArcGIS, will be considered an asset.
