About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide technical inputs for preparing and implementing detailed work plans for UNESCO’s Education Programme, particularly pre-service teacher education
- Support review and revision of teacher education curricula and programmes, including development of new courses and strengthening methodology courses
- Coordinate and oversee day-to-day Education Programme activities in line with work plans and timelines
- Support reforms in pre-service and teacher education and systems for continuous professional development aligned with Competency-Based Education principles
- Contribute to designing, testing, validating, and endorsing a CBE-aligned practicum model
- Contribute to institutional capacity building of pre-service teacher training centres, education faculties, and professional development centres
- Maintain communication with local implementing partners, including pedagogical universities
- Ensure policy, curriculum, practicum, and capacity-building initiatives integrate quality, equity, inclusion, and gender equality
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between UNESCO, line ministries, institutions, and national stakeholders
- Liaise with international and national development partners to ensure synergies with broader development efforts in Uzbekistan
- Provide technical inputs to monitoring and evaluation frameworks
- Analyse programme performance data and identify achievements, challenges, and lessons learned
- Support preparation of progress reports and donor briefs
- Organize workshops, training sessions, and capacity-building activities
- Contribute to knowledge products and resources for sustaining and expanding UNESCO education interventions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in education, social sciences, international relations, ICT, or another relevant field; alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) plus at least four years of additional relevant experience
- Minimum 4 years of relevant professional experience in general education
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Good knowledge of results-based and budget management tools
- Ability to work under pressure, manage heavy workloads, meet tight deadlines, and maintain attention to detail and quality
- Strong IT skills, including standard office software
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to work as part of an international team in a multicultural environment
- Ability to form effective working relationships with counterparts and colleagues
- Ability to work in complex, rural, and remote areas
- Excellent written and oral knowledge of English and Uzbek
- Desirable: work experience in pre-service teacher training
- Desirable: work experience in in-service teacher training
- Desirable: familiarity with administrative procedures of the UN, preferably UNESCO
- Desirable: knowledge of UNESCO’s mission and Education Sector Programme
- Desirable: good knowledge of Russian
