About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide leadership for a team of data engineers, business intelligence analysts, and data governance professionals responsible for delivering enterprise data services across the University of Maine System.
  • Shape the future of our enterprise data platform by improving reliability, scalability, and governance while supporting data-informed decision-making throughout the organization.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing technical team.
  • Guide the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of enterprise data engineering and analytics services.
  • Partner with academic and administrative leaders to understand business needs and translate them into scalable data solutions.
  • Oversee enterprise data pipelines, integration services, analytics platforms, and governance practices.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, and other IT leaders to advance enterprise technology initiatives.
  • Promote modern engineering practices, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field and seven years of progressively responsible professional experience supporting or managing enterprise data engineering, analytics platforms, or enterprise data services;
  • OR
  • Master's degree in a related field and five years of progressively responsible professional experience supporting or managing enterprise data engineering, analytics platforms, or enterprise data services.
  • Experience supervising technical staff or serving in a formal technical leadership role.
  • Experience overseeing enterprise data pipeline and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Experience overseeing cloud-based platforms and evaluating performance, reliability, and cost optimization.
